Ana Ivanovic and Novak Djokovic have failed to
enter the finals of this year Hopman Cup despite their win over the
Russian national team. Even though, just like the USA national team,
they had two victories and a match score 5:4, a better ratio of gained
sets to the USA team's advantage was crucial (12:8 to 10:8). The
question who would be the finalist was settled by the Swedish national
team’s surrender before the mixed doubles match with the Americans due
to the injury of Thomas Johansson, which gave the USA team a place in
the finals. Serbia & Montenegro team reserved the second place
in the group.

"I came to Melbourne at the beginning of December and I was practising with Tennis Australia at Melbourne Park," Ivanovic said.
"We have relatives in Melbourne and I was staying with them. Both my parents are with me this time ... but it's hard to be away from home. It's definitely helpful to have people around me.
"When I started playing tennis, I knew there would be a lot of sacrifices, and this is one of them."
In the second round Ivanovic beat Mauresmo with a power game that in time could challenge the best on the circuit.
While her error count was almost twice that of her opponent, two big aces and a succession of powerful winners from both wings proved too much for Mauresmo.
Ivanovic crunched 21 winners to Mauresmo's four, setting up two match points with a pair of serious forehands.

Reflecting on her defeat to Stosur, Ana said: “She was
playing very well. She served really good. She also has
a lot of good spins on her forehand and backhand and she
comes to the net. She was really mixing up her game. It
was a hard match mentally.
“Moving around I had a little bit of problems. I was a
little bit nervous. That is a mistake you have to learn
from and not make next time.”
Reflecting on her two matches in the mixed doubles, Ana said: “It
was so much fun. I think we both really enjoyed it. I think we had
chances in our last match. We’re still young and we don’t have so much
experience – this was only our second tournament together.

“I’m still young and I have so many things to

taking one step at a time, trying to work on my physical preparation, a
little bit more on my serve, and the consistency in my game. Hopefully
this year I’m going to reach the top 10. That’s my goal.”
The current world No.19 added: “I think from every match you learn a
lot. This is a good experience for me. This was my first time playing
against her. I really enjoy being here. I think I have to see these
matches as challenges (and use them to improve).”

From Ana`s diary:
I’m pretty happy with my game during this month in
America. In Indian Wells I think I played some really good matches and I had chances against Dementieva in the
quarter-finals. In Miami I didn’t play quite as well but I also had some opportunities against Mauresmo in the first
set.
I lost to two really great players in those
tournaments. Overall I think it was a good effort. There is a lot to learn from this experience and there is a lot to improve
on. I am looking forward to doing this over the next few months.

Serbia & Montenegro lost an agonisingly close
Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group I play-off against
Israel. Ana and her team-mates went down 2-1 after three incredibly
dramatic rubbers.
I think, a title "Miss Fed Cup 2006"
not much consolation for Ana Ivanovic. This title Ana has received
in a poll of fans' favourite players competing in Bulgaria this week.

It was a
very eventful week in Warsaw. Of course I was
disappointed to lose to Chakvetadze. It was a strange

Ana was forced to retire while leading Na Li 6-1 in the first round of the Qatar Telecom German Open. The 18-year-old appeared to injure her left hamstring, which was strapped from the start of the
match.
From Ana`s diary:
What happened in Berlin this week was very unlucky. We
flew straight to Belgrade afterwards and I had another
check-up with my doctor on Wednesday. Definitely it is
not a major injury, which is a big relief.
Instead, there are small
ruptures in my left hamstring. I will need seven days of
intense therapy with my physio, Ninoslav Cvetanovic (pictured),
then I can start practising again.

Clay season review
Ana made several positive strides during the clay court season, but the injury she sustained in Berlin meant that it was a largely frustrating seven weeks.
Summarising the period, Ana said: “Warsaw was okay. In Berlin I played really good for that set. I was a little bit unlucky with the injury because I was starting to feel really good on clay. I can move around and run very well.”
Ana played 11 singles matches on clay this season and won seven of them. One of her four defeats occurred when she injured her thigh while leading Na Li 6-1 in Berlin. Her last match on the surface was a straight sets defeat to tenth seed Anastasia Myskina at the French Open on Sunday.
“I played only three tournaments and I could not practice much before Roland Garros,” said Ana. “I think one week of preparation for this Grand Slam wasn’t enough, even though the practice went well. This is the top level and you cannot go with just one week of practice.”
