When the new rankings are released on Monday Ana will find herself at her highest ever position and is very well placed to achieve her goal of finishing 2005 ranked inside the world’s top 20. “I just want to improve my game,” she said. “Then I think the ranking will come
automatically.”

Ana’s
Wimbledon run came to an end today when she lost 6-1,
6-4 to Frenchwoman Mary Pierce. Ana did not play badly,
rather her vastly more experienced opponent was simply
too good.
“It
was a good fight but today she played really good,”
said Ana. “She didn’t give me too many chances. I
had a few but I didn’t use them. I had a few mishits
on some important points and I think that’s what
turned the match. My serve didn’t work really well
today. I think that was one of the points.”

Ana Ivanovic withdrew from the tournament
after sustaining a right pectoral muscle strain on Wednesday. Her
withdrawal gave No.7 seed Kim Clijsters a spot in the quarterfinals.
Ivanovic said in a statement: "It hurt during
the doubles match (Wednesday) night, the best thing I can do now is to
get treatment and hopefully be ready for the U.S. Open."

Ana’s US Open
campaign ended in the most frustrating circumstances
when a shoulder injury contributed to her 3-6, 7-5, 6-1
defeat to Venezuelan Maria Vento-Kabchi in round two.
“It was so tough for me to serve,” said Ana.
“Every time I had a high forehand I was thinking about
the shoulder.”
“I didn’t use my chances
I had in the second set. I could have won that set so
I’m a little bit upset.”

After

It has been a real
pleasure getting into semi-final in Zurich, even though I lost to Patty
again I am very happy with my achievement there. I might have been a bit
lucky in the first round against Tatiana but in the other two matches I
won, against Jelena and Katarina, I felt really confident and I was
hitting the ball very well.
Linz next. I'm pretty eager to perform well in
Linz as my target for this year is to finish in the top 15. The
tournament is very strong, there will be a lot of players that are in
shape and that won against top 10 players in the last couple of weeks,
players like Dementieva, Petrova and Golovin so it is not going to be
easy but I’ll give my best. Tomorrow, I am playing against Asagoe in
the first Round. I won a close match against her a year ago in
Luxembourg so I hope i can do it again.
I hope to be seeing and hearing you all in Linz.
Many
thanks for the many letters and compliments.

More about Ana`s
play. All matches of tournament
(pdf) here. End
of season…
Ana`s
diary from www.anaivanovic.com
I fell like this season ended
too soon for me. During the last two tournaments I could
feel that I am getting better and better, I had a good
rhythm and started hitting something like my best form
from the very beginning of the season.
Yet another defeat against
Patty. It is hard to believe that on all three indoor
tournaments I played this year I lost to Patty. This
time I played better and got closer. I think I know what
is the best tactics to play Patty and I am sure next
time I’ll do much better.
Now is the time to look back
and analyse the past season and make plans for the
forthcoming one. One thing for sure, I had a great
season. Today I am 16th in the world and I started the
year as 100th. This was my first year on the tour and
everything was new. I played some good matches and had
some great wins against top players. I had a few hard
defeats, which thought me a lot. I always wanted more
and secretly hoped for a top ten finish but the injury
sustained in Toronto affected me a lot.
Anyway, there is plenty of time
for better results, I know what I need to work on and I
look forward to the next season. I am happy working with
my team and we all are very positive and enthusiastic
about the future.
Another big thanks you for all
your letters and messages.
Love
Ana
