Ana led Serbia & Montenegro to a 2-1 victory over
Slovenia in their opening Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa
Zone Group I tie.
Ana beat world No.326 Masa
Zec-Peskiric 6-2, 6-2, after team-mate Ana Timotic had
lost 6-3, 6-2 to Polona Rebersak.
Ana then joined forces with
Danica Krstajic for a marathon deciding doubles rubber,
which the Serbian pair won 6-4, 5-7, 8-6 against
Zec-Peskiric and Tina Obrez to secure an important
opening win. The result was an inversion of the 2-1
victory Slovenia scored over Serbia & Montenegro in
last year’s competition.
Tomorrow Ana and co face South
Africa, who lost their opening tie 3-0 against Denmark.
South Africa’s top-ranked player is world No.560

Serbia &
Montenegro remain on course for a place in the the Fed
Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group I play-offs
after thrashing South Africa 3-0.
The rankings of the two teams suggested
that this was going to be a total mismatch and so it
proved. Ana dismissed South African No.1 seed Alicia
Pillay 6-0, 6-1, after team-mate Danica Krstajic had
beaten Lizaan Du Plessis 6-0, 6-2.
Ana was then rested for the
doubles rubber, leaving Danica to team up with Ana
Timotic for a comprehensive 6-1, 6-1 victory over Else
Potgieter and Michelle Sammons.
Serbia & Montenegro must
beat Denmark in tomorrow's final round-robin tie in
order to advance to the play-offs. Denmark followed up
yesterday's 3-0 whitewash over South Africa with a 2-0
win against Slovenia – the doubles rubber was
cancelled due to rain. The Danes' top ranked player is
world No.464 Caroline Wozniacki, who was a
quarter-finalist in Memphis two months ago and is also
the world junior No.4.

Serbia & Montenegro lost an
agonisingly close Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa
Zone Group I play-off against Israel. Ana and her
team-mates went down 2-1 after three incredibly dramatic
rubbers.
Serbian No.2 Ana Timotic faced
Anna Smashnova the first singles rubber and was 6-4, 5-4
behind when, amazingly, the Israeli was forced to retire
through injury.
Ana could have sealed victory
for Serbia but Israeli No.1 Shahar Peer, who has been in
top form this week, triumphed 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the
second rubber.
The tie therefore came down to the
doubles rubber, in which Ana and Danica Krstajic faced
Peer and Tina Obziler. Israel won the opening set 6-1
but Serbia hit back to take the second 6-4.
Just as Serbia &
Montenegro’s opening doubles rubber in the competition
went deep into the deciding set, so they toiled here.
Serbia served for the match, but Israel eventually
clinched the third set 10-8 to seal overall victory.
The result means that Serbia
& Montenegro must remain in Europe/Africa Zone Group
I of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas for another year.

I think, a title "Miss Fed Cup 2006" not much
consolation for Ana Ivanovic. This title Ana has
received in a poll of fans' favourite players
competing in Bulgaria this week. Ana received 65
per cent of the vote.
