Mauresmo
tips bright future for Ivanovic
As
Australian Open contender Amelie Mauresmo acknowledged,
the tennis world will see a lot more of Ana Ivanovic.
Mauresmo had to recover from a service break down in
the second set to overcome the rich talents of the
Serbian teenager to move into the fourth round at
Melbourne Park for the fifth time in seven years.
It was Ivanovic's first defeat from 11 matches in 2005
after the 17-year-old served notice to her more
experience rivals with the biggest rankings leap in
history last season.
The tall, powerful 17-year-old soared 608 spots to
finish 2004 as the world No.97 and can expect to climb
further after clinching her first career title in
Canberra last week and making the third round in her
debut appearance at a grand slam.
Ivanovic is looking to kick on to break into the top
50 this year and Mauresmo is one player believing the
youngster's time will come.
"We're probably going to see a lot more of her in
the next few years," the world No.2 said.
I didn't know her before today, but apparently she's
been improving a lot in these last few months and this
last year.
"She probably needs to move around a little bit
better, but if she can improve that, she hits the ball
pretty hard, she's not afraid to come in and come to
the net and she served pretty well sometimes."
Indeed, while a tad disappointed with her delivery
today, Ivanovic considers her service one of her many
weapons to take her to the top.
"And my mental part. I also try to be tough. I
think I have also good groundstrokes, but also (I have)
quite a lot of things to improve and to work on".
"I was a little bit nervous at the start, and in
the second set also I was a little bit disappointed
with my service game in the end.
"But that's experience. Next time I hope I won't
make the same mistakes."
